Sara is walking to the bus stop in the morning. It is cold, and the sky is dark. She has a warm coat, a red scarf, and gloves. Many people are on the street. Some people walk fast, some walk slowly, and some look very tired. The street is busy and loud.
Sara looks at her phone to check the time. She hopes she will not miss her bus. Today she is a little late because she woke up tired and stayed in bed a few extra minutes. She left home very fast. She did not drink tea or eat breakfast, so she feels a bit hungry. She thinks about buying a small sandwich near her work.
Suddenly, small drops of rain fall from the sky. In one moment, the rain becomes very strong. Sara stops and opens her bag. She takes out her umbrella and opens it. But the wind is strong. The umbrella shakes in her hand, and after one second, it breaks.
“Oh no,” she says. Her hair and coat get wet. She feels cold water on her neck.
Sara starts to walk faster. The rain is very heavy now. She tries to cover her head with her hands. Other people run too. Some people stand under roofs or trees. Some people laugh about the weather.
Then Sara sees her neighbour, Mr. Brown. He stands under a big black umbrella. He is an older man and very friendly.
“I can help you!” he says.
Sara walks to him. “Thank you so much,” she says. “My umbrella broke.”
“That’s okay,” Mr. Brown says. “Come and walk with me.”
They walk together to the bus stop. They talk about the rain, the wind, and their morning. The rain is still strong, but under the umbrella Sara feels warm and safe.
When the bus arrives, Sara smiles at Mr. Brown. “Have a nice day!”
“You too!” Mr. Brown says and waves.
