It is summer, and Maria goes to the beach with her family. Maria is a teenager. The sun is bright, and the sky is very blue. Maria puts on her swimsuit and takes a big towel. She also brings sunscreen to protect her skin.
When they arrive, Maria steps onto the warm sand. She looks at the ocean and takes a deep breath. The sound of the waves is calm and relaxing. Her family finds a place to sit, and they put a big umbrella in the sand.
Maria starts to walk toward the water, but her dad calls to her:
“Maria, put on more sunscreen,” he says.
“Again?” Maria laughs.
“Yes, the sun is strong today,” her dad replies.
Maria puts on more sunscreen and then walks to the ocean.
The water feels cool on her feet. She slowly goes in and starts to swim. The waves are small and gentle. She feels light and free in the water. Her parents watch her and take a few photos.
After swimming, Maria returns to the umbrella. She dries herself with her towel and sits down. The family eats simple sandwiches and drinks cold juice. The food tastes good after swimming. Maria also eats a piece of fruit.
Later, Maria lies on her towel and closes her eyes. She listens to the ocean and feels peaceful. Her mother reads a book, her father rests, and her brother looks around the beach.
In the afternoon, the sky changes to soft orange and pink colors. The family slowly packs their things and gets ready to go home. Maria looks at the ocean one more time.
“It was a really nice day,” she says.
Her family agrees. They walk to the car together, feeling calm and happy.
